This art work is cut using scissors.  This Mongolian style paper cut is inspired by the Goddess Nüwa, wife of the God - Fu Xi. They are both believed to have pro-created mankind. Nüwa is also known as the Goddess of Creation. Legend has it that to speed up creation of mankind, she used clay to mold shapes of men and women and these came to life as human beings. A Chinese myth also tells of how Nüwa helped mend the "falling sky". At one time the pillars supporting heaven and the skies collapsed bringing forth calamities and disasters.  She was said to have melted rocks of five different colors and the legs of turtles to make pillars to support the sky.
