Kang Zhan Jie started paper cutting way back during the time of Chairman Mao Zhe Dong. He became well known and awarded multiple times for his series of paper cuts on Mao Zhe Dong. He is famous in China for his artistry in rendering simple subjects like fish, animals and simple fauna and flora scenes on paper cuts. Mr. Kang also at one time created a 50 meter long paper cut that was featured in a lot of exhibitions and was a main news item in China. Mr. Kang is a native of Shijiazhuang City in the province of Hebei. |

Jian Hong is one of the young upcoming paper cut artists in China. There are very few young chinese people like her who are interested in the art of paper cutting. Jian Hong was trained by Kang Zhan Jie and has made a name of her own by winning some paper cut art competitions. She works in a paper cut studio in Shijiazhuang City of Hebei Province. |

She is of Man Nationality and this shows in her preference for showing subjects depicting Man Nationality people, culture and sceneries. |

Folk Artists from the country-side for generations have been prolific at creating various paper cut art designs that up to this day are cut out by paper cut craftsmen and made by paper cut factories employing hundreds of craftsmen. These craft people have made their own unique adaptations of these traditional paper cut designs. It is difficult to trace who the original folk artist was since no records are found nor signatures made on these art work. We can say there are no artistic copyrights on these art work and many craftsmen reproduce it. |
